The 2020 Annual Gathering

CLAN  LAMONT 125TH ANNIVERSARY GATHERING 17th 18th 19th July 2020

To mark the 125th anniversary of the Clan Lamont Society, the Lamont Clan gathering also incorporates the Ancient Clans of Cowal (Lamont, McEwen and McLachlan) as part of the Clan Gathering programme. Come and join us and our kin for this fabulous 3 day event.

Day 1, Friday 17th of July, 2020

Start  10.00 am: registration  (please be prompt as bus leaves at 10.15)

  1. Tour of the historic sites of Clan Lamont, Clan McEwen and MacLachlan.  Start in Dunoon at the Queens hall. Coach tour to Ardlamont House, Ascog Castle, the early Lamont Settlement, and marked stones at Inveryne.
  2. Lunch at Kilfinan and a visit to the Lamont Vault with 7th Century gravestones, thence to Clan McEwan Memorial cairn, Castle Lachlan,  historic Glendaruel and back to Dunoon.
  3. In the evening a rock ceilidh and Scottish food buffet at the Queens Hall Dunoon (open to the public). Aim here is to encourage young folks. General public will need to pay for entrance.

Day 2, Saturday 18th of July, 2020

11.00   Queens Hall Dunoon :  Society AGM

12.00   Welcome to Cowal opening of Saturdays events at the band stand by the Queens hall from where the Pipe bands will lead the clans parade to the Lamont memorial.  Laying of the wreath at the Lamont Memorial, Dunoon.

1pm-4pm Bus will take registered Clan Lamonts members to Castle Toward
This event will be open to the public against a payment.

    1. Toward Castle re-enactment of Cowal clans history in the castle courtyard.
    2. Re-creation of a 17th Century village with arts and crafts and activities for children.
    3. Archery and a display of highland martial craft.
    4. Historic displays of the Clans of Cowal and merchandising tents of clan memorabilia.
    5. Highland dancing.
    6. Waulking the Tweed
    7. Clan Lamont Pipe band from Holland
    8. Dunoon Pipe band
    9. Clanadonia : a funky modern pipe band
    10. Hog roast
    11. Tug of war
    12. Whisky tasting

Programme and times for above will be issued at registration

Evening:  formal dinner and ceilidh for clan members, families and invited friends. Dress code : Gents highland dress or suit and Ladies evening dress. Inappropriate dress wear will be refused entry.

Day 3, Sunday 19th of July, 2020

  1. 10am   Service of dedication and kirking of the tartan at Toward Church.
  2. Visit to Inverchaolain manse and church yard to lay a wreath at the war memorial.A local historian will describe the history of the church and the connections of the families interred a the graveyard.  Mary Lamb will tell the story of the sale of Inverchaolain church

The remainder of the afternoon will be spent at Inverchaolain Manse, the headquarters of Clan Lamont Society.  In addition to the Lamont archives, visitors will be able to view presentations of the Clan Lamont history.

For the energetic visitors there will be a walk up Inverchaolain Glen with picnic.

Sandwiches, tea, cakes will be offered at the manse

Sail down Loch Striven from Dunoon or the manse depending on tides ,  This will also define the 10 am service location (Toward or Dunoon).  Final details at registration

Price for 3 days:

85 GBP per person for Members
95 GBP per person for Non-Members
40 GBP for Children under the age of 13

Transport available all weekend.
